House Numbers

Fairfield City Ordinance requires that street numbers be properly displayed.  We are asking for your help by properly displaying your own house number in the interest of public safety.  We are asking residents to assess their house numbering for visiblity from the roadway to assist emergency personnel in quickly identifying an address.  Some helpful suggestions in assessing if your house numbering is adequate are:
  • Number should be at least 3" tall and should contrast their background
  • Check for weatherworn, hard-to-read numbers
  • Avoiding placing numbers on a mailbox or near a property line
  • Numbers are best placed on the residence itself
  • Place numbers high enough they will not be obstructed by parked vehicles or snow
